Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Blenheim Gardens, Brixton, London, S.W.2.

THIS company manufactures arc-welding equipment, including CO, packaged units and arc-welding transformers, A range of electrodes also available includes types for welding mild steel, stainless steels and bronze, in addition to electrodes for hard surfacing.

Of particular interest to the vehicle operator is a new range of four .oil-cooled arcwelding transformers. These are designed for general-duty light, medium and heavy welding. Maximum current ratings are 250, 350, 450 and 600 amp. Dual outputs are provided: 50 and 80 V striking voltage in the case of. the 250-amp. model, and 80 and 100 V in the case of the three other models.

A handle on the top of the equipment varies the air gap in the transformer core arid provides stepless adjustment of the welding current from 25 amp. to full rating. There are no selector switches and consequently no contact faces, which could burn should the operator try to change the current setting under load. The arrangement of primary and secondary windings in

relation to the core ensures a constant opencircuit voltage at all current settings. It also ensures that the arc is established early in each half-cycle, so that maximum energy is supplied to the arc. The power factor is 0-65 at all current levels.

Standard input voltages are 200/250 V and 400/440 V single phase for the 250-amp. models, and 380/440 V single phase for the other three.
