EVERY aspect of lubrication is covered with the Lubrequipment range of plant and accessories marketed by Castro] Ltd. Equipment manufactured ranges from the usual greasing pumps to comprehensive wallmounted installations covering the full needs of a lubrication shop; there are also drain units, cabinets and tanks and portable lubrication emits.
Starting with the smaller equipment, there
are many types of cabinets and tanks primarily intended for use by retail garages, but also suited to the transport garage, In all cases lubricant is delivered by a hand pump and the smaller cabinets have lockable roller shutter fronts and capacities of 25 or 50 gal. Larger storage and delivery tanks range in size from 50 to 1,500 gal. and can be supplied with fittings to take air-, electricor hand-operated pumps. Transportable oJ dispensers are also included in the Lubrequipment range, there being types for engine oil and gear oil, the former available with either one 50-gal, tank or two 25-gal. tanks. The pumps are hand operated and the quantity dispensed is indicated on a 7-in. dial meter. The delivery hoses are 9 ft. long. One of the gear-oil units is designed for use with l-cwt. kegs and has a hand pump delivering one pint of oil for 15 strokes of the handle. The other has a capacity of 3 gal„ with a rotary pump delivering half a pint for each revolution of the handle. A more comprehensive dispenser is the transportable battery Type 3P, which as Well as dispensing engine and gear oil also incorporates a grease pump. The unit is operated by compressed air and is supplied with a type 173P grease pistol and a full set of greasing adapters, a spring-oil sprayer and 20 ft. of air hose. Less elaborate is the type 28EVB transportable chassis lubricator and tyre inflator which has its own electricmotor-driven compressor and air storage
tank to supply a grease pump using standard 28-1h. containers and an air hose.
Grease pumping units for chassis lubrication can be obtained either transportable or for static use. In the ease of the transportable type (these are mounted on castors) the name given is Quick-March, and as with the .static model the units are designed for use with standard 1-cwt. grease kegs. A feature of the design is that the pumping unit floats on top of the grease in the keg, cleaning it from the sides as the level drops and preventing cavitation with heavy greases. Four different pumps are made to operate at either 80 or 150 p.s.i. supply pressure and give a delivery of either 400 or 6,000 p.s.i. A larger static grease pump with a similar design of operating unit is suitable for 400-1b. drums; of similar design to the smaller units is a lubricator for all types of self-levelling oil giving 6,000 p.s.i. on an applied air pressure of 150 p.s.i. and a gearbox and axle filler with a pump delivering about six pints per min. at an input air pressure of 150 p.s.i.
Installations of various types of dispensing pumps are supplied by Castro] in a wide variety of forms so that the needs of all types of lubrication bays can be catered for almost exactly. The equipment is contained in cabinets and there are single-, doubleand triple-unit oil dispensers and lubrication plants for dispensing either gear oil or grease alone, or a combination of one of these with air, water or spring oil through a separate hose. Engine-oil dispensers and different types of lubrication plant can be combined to make the comprehensive units, the largest one listed as standard being the Commodore, which can supply three grades of engine oil, three grades of gear oil, one grade of chassis grease and one grade of spring, oil as well as having an air hose. In this case the chassis lubricant is delivered through an overhead swing arm.
In the cabinet-type installations oil tanks and grease containers are carried inside the cabinets, but in the case of wall-fitting installations they are located behind the wall on which the dials showing delivery quantities and the hose outlets are mounted. This eves a neater appearance and installations to suit particular requirements are available. A typical installation would dispense 11 services and possess seven meters for ail engine. gear and axle oils. As with the cabinet units, delivery hoses are carried on retracting reels.
Completing the range of Lubrequipment units are various types of hose reel, one particularly designed for commercial vehicle operators. The others are called QuickReels, having a cleaner appearance and suitable for wall, ceiling and floor installations. Types of Quick-Reel made are two suitable for oil and others for grease. penetrating oil, air and water. Castro] also manufacture equipment to receive waste oil which includes a transportable oil-drain unit to take 'a 12-gal, drum and one for a 25-gal. container. Two other waste-oil disposal units have extending arms with up to a 10-ft. 6-in, radius, and whilst one is intended for use with an underground storage tank, the other pumps the waste oil to a separate storage tank allowing this to be above ground level.
