Economical Heater WASTE oil of any type can be burned in a workshop heater now being produced by E. F. Allchin and Co. Ltd. This heater, called the W.30, gives off 120,000 B.t.u. per hour, consuming six to seven pints of fuel in that time. It has no jets. pressure, or wicks and will stand on its own in practically any position in a workshop where chimney height is not more than 40 ft.; it can also be used outdoors. The heater circulates hot air and heat is fully adjustable. It is supplied complete with fuel tank.

Positive Displacement Pump

INTRODUCED by Plenty and Son Ltd. is a new positive I displacement pump of standardized compact design. It is especially for use in industries handling oils in quantity, for drumming installations, or for incorporation into mobile dispensers and road vehicles. This Plenpak pump will be available initially in two sizes to suit pipe bores of 2 and 3 in. Capacities of these units are between 20 and 72 gal. per minute at a pressure of 100 lb. per square inch. Output varies with motor power, speed and the viscosity of the fluid being handled. There will be six alternatives available to meet most requirements.

Features of the new unit are its compact dimensions and aeration-free pumping action, eliminating foaming problems at present associated with barrel filling operations and at tank loading points. It has a built-in full-flow relief valve and is electrically driven through a positive drive toothed belt. The pump can be used in standard form for viscosities from 20 to 3,000 seconds Redwood No. 1. Alternatively, the base pump can be supplied suitable for chain drive or from a power takeoff via a flexible coupling. Pumps areoalso available to special order for viscosities up to 12,000 seconds Redwood No. I, or for abnormally high operating temperatures. The Plenpak is of simple; robust construction and is claimed to be almost maintenance free. Weathershields

WEATHERSHIELDS which can be fitted to a range of VY commercial vehicles are now being made by the Exhaust Ejector Co. Ltd. Until recently these have been available in this country for use with cars and small vans only. The Galemaster shields, made of acrylic sheet, can be easily fitted; fitting instructions are provided, no special tools being required. Using this shield on his vehicle the driver can have his cab window wound fully down, so that he has an ample supply of fresh air—but annoying draughtg are excluded. He can also have his heater full on, ensuring that his body is kept warm, and at the same time receive the benefit of fresh air from an open window.

Galemaster weathershields can he obtained from motor factors or direct from the manufacturers.

Rust-inhibiting Paper ANEW type of non-contact, rust-preventing packaging paper has been introduced by Leonard Stace Ltd. This paper, unlike most existing rust-inhibiting papers, is not' surface coated, but impregnated with a specially formulated quickacting chemical. Because it is impregnated, both sides of this Stace V.C.I. paper are equally effective and will not damage critically machined surfaces by contact abrasion or by depositing loose powder particles. The makers state that it will not adhere to the packaged article when wet and that the preparation cannot be rubbed off.

This new paper prevents rust cm ferrous metals by giving off a rust-inhibiting vapour which is claimed to be effective up to a distance of at least one foot. It is suitable for a wide variety of applications where manufactured_ or part-finished components are packed before storage or dispatch. Pre-coating is unnecessary as immediate protection is given to the packaged article. The paper is non-toxic and has no objectionable odour. Made by: Leonard Stace Ltd., Cheltenham, Glos.

Strip for Vehicle Trim

PLANCHROM strip, useful for a variety of applications including vehicle trim, is now available in five additional colours. The new colours (with metallic finish) are blue, green, red, bronze and mauve. This lightweight strip is claimed to be highly durable and malleable and it can be high-frequency welded or stuck with a suitable adhesive. Further claims are that it will not rust, corrode, discolour or deteriorate undei any conditions of normal use, either indoors or in the open.
