Ltd., has now also been appointed to the boards of two other Leyland Group companies —Transport Equipment (Thornycroft) Ltd. and Beans Industries Ltd. Mr. Thorpe began his career at Leyland Motors in Lancashire in 1927. In 1960 he transferred to Scammell and was appointed works manager in 1961 and director in 1962. Mr. Thorpe will, of course, still retain his seat on the Scammell board.
Mr. A. Jones, at present transport manager with the Dover and District Co-operative Society Ltd., has been ,appointed transport manager of the Northampton Co-operative Society Ltd., with effect from March 15.

A reception at the Middlesex Guildhall, Parliament Square, London, was held recently to celebrate the 65th birthday of Mr. Eric Lorain, p.s.v. manager of Small and Parkes Ltd. More than 120 friends from the passenger and goods vehicle world were present.
Mr. I.. W. A. Gayfer, secretary/ accountant of the Yorkshire Traction Co. Ltd., is to retire on June 30.
At the annual general meeting of the Road Haulage Association (West Midland) Coventry sub-area, Mr. G. Whittaker (Red House Garage Co. Ltd.) was elected chairman, and Mr. H. Skelton (H. Skelton Ltd.) vice-chairman.

Mr. Noel Flanagan, sales manager of the Ulster Transport 'Authority since 1962, has been appointed road passenger manager. Mr. Flanagan joined H. M. S. Catherwood Ltd. as a traffic apprentice in 1930 and was district manager in Ballymoney when the company was acquired by the Northern Ireland Road Transport Board in 1935. .
At recent sub-area elections of the Traders Road Transport Association's West Midland area, the following were appointed for the ensuing year. Birmingham area: Mr. G. A. Morgan, chairman; Mr. J. Harrison, deputy chairman; Mr.

Dr. John F. Wallace has been appointed group director of research of the Pressed Steel Co, Ltd., with effect from April 1, Dr, Wallace joined the company as senior research engineer in October. 1961. He will succeed Mr. Neil S. Boon, who is leaving to take up an appointment elsewhere in the engineering industry.
Mr. Angus Pye, formerly sales manager of the electrical and mining division of the Skefko Ball Bearing Co. Ltd.. has been appointed sales manager of the automobile division. Mr. J:m White, formerly planning manager, will be the division's assistant sales manager.
Mr. F. IL Austin has been appointed by London Transport acting assistant divisional superintendent (east division) in the department of the operating manager (central buses).
Mr. E. S. Broderick, Michelin Tyre Co. Ltd, divisional manager in Belfast, has retired after a 38-year association with the company in Northern Ireland. Mr. James B. Batty, deputy general manager of Bolton Corporation transport department. has been appointed general manager and engineer. The pro:motion is subject to approval-by the full council. Mr. Batty, who is 50, and has been at Bolton since 1958, will replace Mr. R. Bennett, who is himself replacing Mr. Neal at Manchester.
Mr. C. E. Clubb has been appointed chief engineer to the Aldershot and District Traction Co. Ltd., with effect from April I. Mr. Clubb is at present assistant engineer, North Western Road Car Co. Ltd., a position he has held for nearly three years. From 1960 to 1962 he was technical assistant engineer, Northern General Traction Co. Ltd.

Forward, vice-chairmen. Plymouth—Mr. T. J. Emerson, chairman; Mr. W. G. Stoneham, vice-chairman. Mid-Cornwall—Mr. W. H. Grose, chairman; Capt. J. H. Allison, vice-chairman. Mr. L. G. Valiance was elected chairman of the area livestock and functional group, and Mr. H. White vice-chairman.
