Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THERE was a "considerable demand" I for car transporters from the motor industry. This was stated before the West Midland Licensing Authority last week when Motor Vehicle Transporters, 72 Showell Green Lane, Sparkhill, and Messrs. B. A. Hardwick, 83 Byron Road, Small Heath, each applied for B licences to run 12 car transporters.

Mr. J. Harrison, transport manager of the Austin Motor Co., Ltd.. said that the company were having difficulty in. delivering Nash-Austin sports cars. a model made exclusively for the U.S.A.. to the docks because it was stipulated that they must not be driven to the ports under their own power. He said that Austin's could employ all the 24 transporters concerned in the application.

Austin output averaged 3,000 vehicles a. week. Nine per cent. were dispatched by rail, 7+ per cent, by transporter and 83/ per cent, by their own power under trade plates.

The applicants met a railway objection by agreeing to a condition that the vehicles be used for the collection of completed cars within a 25-mile radius of base for delivery as required.

Decision was reserved.
