De Rooy required to re-register vehicles
IN GRANTING Intramast (UK), a company controlled by Dutch firm De Rooy, a new international licence for 40 vehicles and 40 trailers based at Leyland, the North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell has required it to re-register its vehicles, which are currently registered in the Netherlands and Poland, in the UK in five months, The grant came after the company agreed to abandon plans to have vehicle maintenance carried out in Holland and, instead, have the work carried out by contractors in the North West.
The application was a result of Vosa's recent change of policy with regard to enforcement of the abuse of cabotage. A letter was sent to De Rooy, indicating that cabotage was not applicable and that if the organisation wanted to continue operating vehicles in the North West it would have to apply for a licence (CM, 24 April.) The TC said she was not satisfied the conduct of safety inspections and repair work in Holland for vehicles based in the North West was satisfactory for keeping them in a fit and serviceable condition.
For the company, Tim Nesbitt said 18 vehicles had so far received the required adjustments to allow them to be registered in the UK. The company felt that until it had a GB licence it was caught between two stools. The vehicles were on Dutch and Polish licences and had to meet the domestic requirements of those countries.
Peter Stott, the company's North Western area manager, said the the minimum period they would be working on for re-registration was 12 weeks, and they couldn't get 40 trucks sorted in 12 weeks.
