Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Customs discovered 14.5m of cannabis hidden in pallets in an unaccompanied trailer which arrived at Immingham last week.

The 40ft curtainsider had entered Rotterdam on 28 May and Customs officers found around 20kg of cannabis hidden in each pallet.

In a separate incident, six men appeared in court last week after police and Customs seized cannabis worth 110.5m from two vans in St Helens, Merseyside earlier last month.

One van was found to be carrying 2.7 tonnes of cannabis resin and another was carrying 800kg. It is believed the drugs were brought into the country on a truck through Harwich earlier the same day.

The men were remanded in custody awaiting appeal.

• A truck driver from Charing, Kent, was jailed for six months last week for attempting to fraudulently evade duty by cigarette smuggling.

Joseph John Foames was arrested by Customs at Portsmouth in March. His truck was x-rayed and found to contain utikg of tobacco hidden in black bags among a load of sunflower seeds.
