DEFENSIVE Driving is the subject of a two-hour briefing to be held on July 13 at the Digbeth Civic Hall, Birmingham. The talk is open to those responsible for company cars and other fleet vehicles and drivers who are interested in reducing insurance premiums, and keeping their vehicles out of trouble.
The briefing is run by the British Safety Council and the techniques have been taught successfully in the United States and Australia for the past few years.
The BSC says that the defensive driver training programme has given companies a better vehicle accident record. One insurance company said that companies could save as much as 25 per cent or more in insurance payments.
The concept of defensive driving is not to increase drivers' skill, the BSC says, but to develop proper attitudes towards the road and other road users by recognising potential sources of danger and identifying hazards early enough to avoid them.
