Countdown to victory

TWO HUNDRED and sixty-four finalists are expected at the CM. Lorry Driver of the Year finals on Sunday, September 12 at Cranfield, Bedfordshire.

Many of them will also be participating in a competition at Cranfield the day before. There will be a Concours d' Elegance based on the design of the vehicle livery and the presentation and cleanliness of the vehicle. The second part of the contest is a mechanical condition inspection based on the major safety features of the hgv annual inspection test.

"The number of finalists is slightly down," says John Wells, LIloY national organising secretary, "but the quality is as high as ever. And besides the competition we have many other attractions; on both days manufacturers are providing vehicles for test driving a unique facility not even rivalled by the National Exhibition Centre at Birmingham."

Bedford is providing vehicles for the competition run-off events.

The entrance fee to the finals is included in the parking fee (coaches, £10; cars, £2.50).
