Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

motor vehicle running while the vehicle is stationary on the highway and unattended, and what is the position with regard to engines of auxiliary equipment mounted in or on the vehicle?

I am referring in particular to ice-cream vending vans. Can these be left unattended on the highways with their refrigerator motors running?

A Paragraph 97, C and U Regulations 1969, states that "No person shall cause or

permit to be on a road any motor vehicle which is not attended by a person duly licensed to drive it unless the engine is stopped. . . .

If, however, auxiliary plant is driven from a completely separate engine to that which powers the vehicle, then this auxiliary unit may be left running for any length of time when the vehicle is unattended for the purposes of powering the plant.
