In addition to the new Tennant 92 power sweeper, the Model 42 which is self-propelled but is steered from behind by the operator: cleaning capacity is 18.000 sq.ft. per hour. The intermediate sweeper in the range is the Model 53. The 86 scrubber/sweeper, which is propane

powered, has a 30.000 sq.ft. capacity in scrubber form: accompanying it will be the electrically driven 42E scrubber/sweeper which will cover up to 15.000 sq.ft. hourly.

The Ford D750 chassis forms the basis for four cleansing vehicles. They are the Johnston and Lacre road sweepers also, this time from the Eagle stable, a cesspool emptier and a Compressload 5. The new Telehoist Load Lugger Type 501 is carried on a D1000.

A Paxit Major IIIC with bulk bin hoist equipment and a Paxit 70 with dustless shutters. Among other units are a 1,000-gal. gully emptier with street watering and washing equipment and an 800-gal. cesspool emptier with all-welded steel tank. galvanized inside and out.

JOHN GIBSON AN D'SON LTD. Bankhead Avenue, Edinburgh EH11 4BX

A Gibson container lifter for 1+ cu.yd. bins. This model is made in sizes up to 25 cu.yd. air space, with a possible capacity for 60 cu.yd. of uncompressed refuse. The control mechanism has been improved, many tail-safe features being incorporated. The lifting cradle can be modified to accommodate any type of bin.

JOHNSTON BROS. (ENGINEERING) LTD. Vincent Lane, Dorking, Surrey. Twin-engined Mk 200 suction clean ers. which enable the exhauster to be operated without need for a special pt-a. box and the Mk II series of single-engined cleaners. Another product of interest is the Johnston jetting unit for sewer cleansing. BRITISH LEYLAND MOTOR CORPORATION LTD.

A motor footpath snowplough. with an entirely new power unit, plus attachments ranging from grasscutters to snow-blowers is of special interest. Other products include a lorry-mounted snowplough and various spreaders.

561 Old Kent Road, London S.E.1. A GWL salvage vehicle on a Karrier Bantam chassis has a 22 cu. yd. capacity body and is intended for the collection of furniture, shop wastes, and large items of scrap. Other units include, the Ramillies Binmaster. the Ramillies Mk II collector, two Musketeers, and Load Lugger equipment.

Whilst other types are available, main interest here is concentrated on the SD Revopak collector described in the introduction.

292 Monkmoor Road, Shrewsbury. Among the various applications of container handling equipment produced by this company is a closed design intended for local authority use. Another exhibit: an Atkinson Spreadmiser automatic salter/gritter mounted on a Multilift subframe. ROOTES MOTORS LTD.

Luton, Bedfordshire.

A wide range of vehicles with purpose-built bodies by Glover. Webb and Uversidge Ltd. Among these are the Ramillies Binmaster 18/45 collector and the Musketeer 19/60. A further popular type of collection vehicle is the long-established Karrier Dual-Tip, of which an 18 cu.yd. is mounted on a Karrier WC5 chassis. This design can, at option, be fitted with a packer plate to increase the volume of refuse by 30 per cent. GENERAL DESCALING CO. LTD. Worksop, Notts.

An addition to this company's sewer jetting range is a four-wheel-drive design. Model 527, carried on a 10ton chassis.

HARBILT ELECTRIC Market Harborough, Leics.

Both pedestrian-controlled and driven electric trucks are being offered by Harbilt Electric. The range includes side-loaders, bin carriers and other types, among them being the Harbilt Series 808 with plastics cab giving seating for a crew of three. Operating speed is 15 mph and working costs (including drivers' wages) are given as 14s. per hour.

TELEHOIST LTD.

Cheltenham, Glos.

The new Model 501. as described earlier, is the main Telehoist attraction. Fitted to a Bedford six-wheel chassis is a Model 800 with 20 cu.yd. closed container.

YORKSHIRE PATENT STEAM WAGON CO.

Pepper Road, Hunslet, Leeds 10. Based on the Commer 10.7-ton VC7 chassis, Yorkshire has a road sweeper fitted with independent engine to drive the suction fan. Also available: Yorkshire-Ka trier combined gully/ cesspool emptiers.

ATKINSON'S OF CLITHEROE LTD.

Of special interest from Atkinson is the Mini-Tug mentioned earlier. Accompanying exhibits include a manually-controlled Spreadmiser on a Commer VC8 tipping chassis, a bulk gritter body and snowplough fitted to an ex-WD Bedford R chassis, and the Mini-Spread, a hand-operated unit. LACRE LTD.

Hatfield Road, St. Albans, Herts. Apart from the new Lacre Module. there is the Compact series of suction sweepers. They can be obtained in sweeping or surface dressing collection versions, with conversion kits that are completely interchangeable. HANGER ENGINEERING LTD. Eagle Works, Warwick.

Eagle Compressload 5 and Crushioad 35 refuse collectors and the Thuro sewer jetter.

VAUXHALL MOTORS LTD.

The Bedford TK chassis carry gully and cesspool emptiers of both Eagle and Yorkshire manufacture. Collection vehicles include an SD Pakamatic and an Eagle Compressload 7. Also on show: a Lacre Compact suction road sweeper.

H. YOUNG (MOTORS) LTD. Sturdiluxe Works, Foundry Lane, Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham. The Gannet, a pedestrian-controlled sweeper-collector already mentioned, is petrol-engine operated, various types being available to meet specific needs. The Glutton is a well tried sweeper-collector which can be towed behind any standard tractor. BLAW KNOX LTD.

Rochester, Kent, The Pathm aster 42 sweeper, to which reference has already been made, has a hopper with working capacity of 70 cu.ft., its discharge height enabling sweepings to be tipped into a skip or trailer, for subsequent transmission to the tip, if required.

The Glotrac trailer gutter is a rear. spreading model which can be fed by one man: it can be arranged to throw forwards if preferred so providing. traction for the towing vehicle. The fully mechanized Glotrac Footway Mk 2 spreader/plough is pedestriancontrolled and can be operated by a driver possessing only a provisional licence.

Typical of the power units employed for many cleansing appliances are the six-cylinder 120 bhp 6.354 diesel and the four-cylinder 80 bhp 4.236.

APPLIED CLEANING EQUIPMENT LTD.

The Villiers petrol engine fitted to the Applied company's vacuum fan sweeper has a handle-mounted throttle control and a petrol tank sufficient for more than a day's work. The flexible pick-up head is designed to hug irregular surfaces and sweep a 30in, path right up to wall or kerb edges.

SHEPPARD FABRICATIONS LTD. Bamham, Nr. Thetford. Norfolk.

A Rolonof handling unit is designed for dealing with full-legal-width containers, this model being well suited for dealing with waste packer containers. A range of such packers is available, the 2/24 being well suited for such purposes as transfer-station use.

TRI-CITY EUROPEAN SALES LTD. Princes Street, Sittingbourne, Kent.

Tri-Pak -refuse compactors are designed for installation in shopping areas, factories and other places where there is a considerable volume of rubbish. The machines reduce this to a fraction of its original size, transfer it to the containers and can bring about a considerable reduction in the number of collections required. Several models are made, with capacities from 30 cu.yd. to 352 cu.yd. per hour.

VAPSCO VEHICLE AND PLANT SUPPLY CO. LTD.

West Drayton, Middlesex.

The Model 14-AL is an articulated lugger giving a 14-ton payload including container. With a BLMC Mastiff tractor and 22 cu.yd. container overall length (extended) is 44ft. 4in. and the gross weight is 24 tons. There is also a Model 9s on an Albion four-wheel chassis, with an 8ft. Sin, by 6ft. pallet to show a typical arrangement for equipment used by cleansing and highway departments.

MELFORD ENGINEERING LTD. Cottenham, Cambridge CB4 4TZ. The tricycle layout of the new Melford suction sweeper makes it easy to manoeuvre in congested areas. Fully-floating twin scarifying brushes give a 6f1. sweep into the path of the main broom, so feeding the suction pick-up nozzle that transfers the refuse into a 1-1cu.yd. plastic container.

POWELL DUFFRYN ENGINEERING LTD.

The 65 cu.yd. Dumpmaster compaction trailer is a 39ft. long frameless design with integral hydraulic powerpack so that operations can be carried on independently of the tractive unit. A new stationary refuse packer is the Dinosaur with 30 cu.yd. compaction trailer, while a Dumpster is matched with a 10 cu.yd. enclosed container suitable for operation in conjunction with the Power Mite packing unit.

ROLEIA LTD.

Charlwoods Road, East Grinstead, East Sussex.

A small selection of pedestrianoperated snowploughs. All are selfpropelled and gear-driven and are based on the Rolba system of rotary cutters and a separate ejector turbine. Models include the Snow-Baby R60, the Snow-Boy 2004 and the Roiba Rapid described earlier.

KENT ENGINEERING AND FOUNDRY LTD.

Maidstone, Kent.

Of three power sweepers shown by this company, the largest is the KEF 1262 introduced last year and having a capacity of up to 120,000 sq.ft. an hour. The sweeping width is 62 in. and the unit is powered by a 12 hp Wisconsin engine. Other products include the KEF 526 and 936 power sweepers, the Munivac suction sweeper, and the KEF-Clarke Debris Vac. The last-mentioned has a new aerodynamic housing aimed to give more powerful lift to all kinds of litter.
