Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Northumberland County Council has recently placed a repeat order for a further six Commer VCAW 8-ton chassis, fitted with Unipower single-speed tandem-drive bogie conversions, to go into service as frost gritters, and the addition of these machines will give the corporation a total fleet of 16 Commer-Unipower 6 x 4 vehicles.

The machines already in service were supplied by Minories Garages Ltd, Newcastle, and the conversions to tandem drive were carried out by Universal Power Drives Ltd at its Perivale factory.

Unipower four-spring balance beam suspension was specified in conjunction with Eaton single-speed bogie axles. The chassis frame is internally reinforced for its full length and after conversion the g.v.w. is up-rated to 18 tons.

Grit spreading equipment was supplied by F. Bode and Sons Ltd, Leek, and incorporates a hydraulic drive to give a spreading variation of .oz to 2-ioz of salt per square yard. Salt or grit from the 9 cu.yd. body is fed to the spreader units by a conveyor chain, driven from a drive line power take off, to give conveyor speed relative to road speed.
