1k NEW industrial three-wheeled truck, known as the r-v Pyramid, has been produced by the Excelsior Motor Co., Ltd., Tyseley, Birmingham, 11. It can be supplied fitted with brakes on both front and rear wheels, so that it can be licensed for use on the public roads. In this form it markets at £98 10s., and a model with braking applied to the front wheel only is available for £94. The rated load is 1 ton.

A Villiers 120 c.c. four-stroke air-cooled petrol engine is incorporated in a tiller-controlled steering head, which can be turned through 360 degrees, thus enabling an Albion three-speed gearbox to provide three ratios in both directions of travel. The drive from the engine to the gearbox and from the gearbox to the wheel is by means of,roller chains.

The power head is attached to the' frame by four bolts arid can be removed in a few minutes, The chassis frame is a cross-braced structure of 3 in. by l in. channel sections, and the platform is of hardwood. A bar at the front gives protection against damage and enables the vehicle to be used for pushing wheeled loads. The machine weighs a little over 3 cwt.

The front wheel is fitted with a 16-in. by 4-in. tyre and a Girling 6-in, brake, a ratchet lever being provided for brake application to facilitate parking on a slope. The tear wheels have 10-in. by 3-in. tyres and brakes of 5-in. diameter. The latter are operated by a pedal.

Loading height is lit in., wheelbase 6 ft., and ground clearance 4 in. The platform measures 5 ft. 9 in. by 3 ft. 2 in. and the turning circle is 6 ft. Other features of note are a ball-bearing turntable and a quickly detachable seat pillar.

A special method of packing the units of two trucks has been devised for export, which reduces the shipping space required. Assembly time for each truck is about half an hour.
