'TWO of the mobile television units I employed in London by the outside broadcast service of the Post Office in connection with the Coronation, were based on Karrier passenger chassis with bodies built by Reading and Co. Ltd., Portsmouth. The body is divided into two compartments, the driver and four passengers being accommodated in the front, and injection video and audio equipment at the rear. Access to the equipment compart'meat is gained from the rear, although there is a sliding glass panel between the front and rear sections. This panel also allows the video link officer to obtain a forward view. A 2-ft.-wide folding table extending the full width of the body and a folding shelf on each side carry the apparatus when in use. Mains current is normally employedand the vehicle is wired for this purpose, but a mobile generator is available. The Karrier chassis is powered by a 50 h.h.p. four-cylindered engine, and has a suspension . system in which properly integrated Springing is coupled with large double-acting hydraulic dampers and low-pressure tyrcs.
