WHEN 19 summonses concerning breaches of the drivers' hours regulationg were brought against William Orr (Hair), Ltd., padding and curled-hair makers, Wharf Road, London, N,1, at Clerkenvwell -magistrates' court last week, the defending solicitor, Mr. R. Winn, said:—
"These drivers are good, keen, hardworking non-union men. They were not forced to work overtime. Not one of them has been paid for driving excess time. They all did their job as they thought best."
One man, he said, chose to drive on ta a cafe, where he knew he would obtain a good meal, although he had finished his stipulated 11 hours. Another added 3f hours to his permitted time in driving three miles home in thick fog, whilst the other chose to drive home instead of spending the right in lodgings.
Mr. L. A. Barker, prosecuting, stated that the drivers' records were indifferently kept and were inaccurate. The magistrate dismissed the charges absolutely on payment of £10 10s. costs.
