Scottish meat-trade circles of the " scandalous " waste of transport involved in the present system of sending live sheep into the north of England from the Scottish borders. Slaughterhouses in Scotland have been closed down, but the most vital aspect is that the transport of five as against carcased animals involves waste. Not only is there waste on the down trip but the return journey has to he made unloaded because cattle trucks are not fitted for carrying general goods. So strong is the feeling that the Secretary of State for Scotland is being asked to take up the matter.
