Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• THE HEALTH and Safety Executive (HSE) has published two Guidance Notes on the assessment of exposure to welding fumes and the control measures required.

Guidance Note EH54, Assessment of Exposure to Fumes from Welding and Allied Processes, explains the part that welding consumables and the parent metal play in influencing exposure.

Guidance Note El155, The Control of Exposure to Fumes from Welding, Brazing and Similar Processes, gives advice on controlling exposure to those fumes. It advises on the removal of fumes at source, extracted

'benches and booths, on-gun extraction and general ventilation. Guidance is also given on the use of respiratory protective equipment, with illustrations of good and bad working practices. EH54 and EI-I55 cost £2.50 and £3.00 respectively from HMSO booksellers.
