Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new type of oil purifier which is claimed to extend lubricant life to up to 56,000km has been developed by Leslie Selsdon of Seisdon Filtration.

The purifier fits in between the engine block and the normal fullflow filter. It features a celluloseedge filtration systems that is said to absorb several times its own weight in water. When the oil is hot the water is boiled off and vented through the engine breather.

Its inventor claims that the life of the oil and the standard filter is greatly extended by fitting the purifier, and that in extensive tests in a London taxi the oil's additive pack remained in good condition.

Production of the filter is expected to begin within a couple of months and it should cost around £25. Retrofit will only take seconds, but the engine
