• • Participation by Neoplan in a Bavarian Export Show in China last year was a big factor in winning an order from Norinco, a major Chinese metal-working group, which will build 1,000 German-designed buses and coaches annually.
One of the first Neoplan vehicles to be assembled in China is an exhibit at the International Automotive Industries Exhibition, July 4-10, at Beijing (Peking).
Neoplan has based the vehicle for China on the successful Jetliner model which will be adapted for city and interurban requirements. Power units will be supplied from Germany with an air cooled Deutz Diesel having been selected as the most suitable engine for service in China. The programme provides for 25 CKD kits to be supplied to the Chinese manufacturing plant from the Pilsting (Bavaria) plant of Neoplan.
With the help of key workers specially trained in Germany this will get the operation going.
Thereafter the licence-built vehicles will be produced in China using patented Neoplan front and rear suspension elements which will be shipped from Germany for the first three years of the 10-year contract.
