AN UNECONOMIC fixed Channel link could lead to restrictions on ferry services, says the Freight Transport Association.
In evidence submitted to the House of Commons Select Committee on Transport earlier this week, FTA said we must guard against a privileged position for a fixed link vis-a-vis ferries.
It is concerned that a nonviable tunnel or bridge would be protected by restrictions on the level of service offered by surface transport.
It feels British Rail's tunnel proposals will exclude a potential freight market.
