Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Actros, the previous M-B product for tippers, was good, but too heavy. Its lack of sales indicated this and it took only a modest share of the UK heavy-duty 8x4 tipper market.

Exit stage left the Actros. enter stage right the Axor. Lighter and more versatile, this new approach is powered by a 12-litre straight-six engine producing between 1,850 and 2,100Nrn, hub reduction axles and 16-speed gearbox, while weighing less than 9,200kg.

The weight has been saved by a multitude of measures, namely reduced chassis flitching, no antiroll bar on the first axle and fitting disc brakes, two-leaf front springs and lighter batteries. as well as specifying the smallest cab.

All these savings are targeted at maximising the rise in multi

axle rigids in the burgeoning UK construction economy.

The initial spec is unlikely to change much before the arrival of Euro-4 in October. but further weight reductions provided by new singlereduction axles and an eight-speed gearbox will compensate for the extra weight of the SCR supply system. It is still slightly heavier by around 200kg than products from Scania and Renault.
