An update to the Atego range in 2005 enhanced the appeal of the model. giving much better in-cab comfort for drivers thanks to new dash and interior trim bringing Actros quality levels to the mid-range sector. Three levels of cab trim are now on offer— distribution, long distance and comfort — with the spec level rising through the range. The exterior of the cab received a tweak at the same time to set the range apart from the 'old' model.
A new 215hp version of the new 4.8-litre 0M924 engine. saving 100kg over the equivalent 230hp rating from a six-cylinder engine, gives the 7.5-tanner a power boost and the performance of the top rated four-pot ensures last journey times.
The Alego range now spans the 6.5to 15-tonne GVW sector with power options from 121-275hp. Transmission choice is between five-. sixand nine-speed Mercedes-built gearboxes, with sixspeed auto box fully available, though at a price premium of £1.753.
