With a history that dates back to the 1950s there are few commercial vehicles that come with a reputation as worthy as the Hilux —from building sites to political revolutions it's stood the test of time. And the latest model carries on where the previous one left off. Powered by a modified version of Toyota's 2.5-litre D-40 engine it produces a relatively low 101hp compared to Nissan's Navara. but work has been done on the torque curve to allow accessible grunt throughout the rev range. And this is complemented by a slicker shift from the five-speed box.
There's also a new front suspension setup and tweaked rear that has given it a more controlled ride on the road. Inside. cabin space is improved, especially in the rear of the twin-cab version and the ergonomics are verging on car-like. All this adds up to another strong term in office.
