In our 2005 mid-year review the Transporter usurped the Vivam from top spot in the medium van market sector thanks to rugged good looks, durable build quality and excellent power train. Anew 174hp rating of a five-cylinder turto-diesel makes it the most powerful van engine on the market, and with 400Nm of torque it has the grunt normally reserved for 7.5-tonners. More modest power options of 86 and 104hp come from a 1.9-litre, four-cylinder engine, while the 130hp version uses the five-pot.
UK versions have two wheelbase options. three roof heights and gross weights range from 2.8 to 3.2 tonnes. Asa result, loadspace volumes range from 593 to 8.4m3. The latest addition to the line-up is the all-wheel drive variant, which gives a surprising level of oft-road ability with minimal driver input
