A six-speed transmission with dash-mounted gearshift is a great improvement.

Early versions, however, proved not to be as refined as first hoped, with significant levels of noise and harshness, especially from the rear end. Thankfully. the German engineers took the criticisms on-board and running changes, including revised final drive ratios, have transformed the Vito experience.
