Led by the Transit, heavy vans are expecting many changes during the year, which we've covered where we can.

The world of heavy vans —that is those bigger than 'car-derived' up to 6.5 tonnes— begins the year in a state of expectation. More than half the models in the market place are due to he replaced or significantly revised during the year, with many making their public debuts at the NEC Commercial Vehicle show in April.

Of the new arrivals that are expected this year, one is the van brand that we have yet to see on the road, BMC.

Homologation is believed to be complete and the range is on target, although there's no news yet of what it will be called.What we do know is that a line-up of vans. chassis-cabs and passenger models will be available, initially at 2,900 and 3,500kg GVIAT, with a five-tonner to follow.

The market-leaclingTransit is up for a revamp, which we know includes a new Connect-style troll! e ad, a revised interior and optional stability control.

Even more radical changes are due for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Volkswagen LT. which will once again be to very similar specs, and the Sevel family of Citroen Relay. Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer.

Apart from the outgoing versions of these. we can finally wave goodbye to the LDV Pilot and, during the year. the remaining chassis-cab versions of the Convoy, as the Maxus becomes the sole LDV model.

Like their heavier colleagues, vans will soon have to meet their own Euro-4 emissions standards Although some manufacturers have their solutions ready. others have some way to golfs unlikely though that anyone will need to employ SCR and AdBlue, as a combination of electronic tuning, ECIR and particulate filters should be sufficient,
