Not much more than a year after a major mechanical and interior upgrade, the days of the current Sevel family of Relay, Ducat° and Boxer are numbered. We are barely weeks away from the next generation fruits of the joint venture breaking cover. We can expect the newcomers to have significantly revised styling and interiors, while retaining the existing wide choice of dimensions including three wheelbases, three roof heights and three gross vehicle weights —2.9,3.3 and 3.5 tonnes —to give load capacities ranging from compact to massive. On the French-badged examples, the current range of engines will be largely superseded by the 2.2litre common-rail engine built jointly with Ford, in readiness for Euro-4 emissions. Fiat will probably continue to use its impressive 2.3-litre JTD unit, possibly joined by the Daily's 3.0litre motor.
While the technical details will be shared to a great extent, the intriguing story will continue to be the different approaches the three brands take to marketing the same product.
