the 1-7 December issue of 014 we are, of course, as disappointed as all concerned that the Government has no plans to introduce a statutory register of goods vehicle driving instructors.
However, we are delighted that the Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council plans a voluntary system of approval for WV training centres, to be operated by RTITB Services, despite the fact that LGV training schools would have to pay for this system as it would run on a fee-paying basis, via the Driving Standards Agency.
We are pleased to advise that we will be able to help driving schools with our new WV driver training policy, as under-written by Norwich Union Insurance.
It can save up to 75% of insurance premiums by rating vehicles not on gross weights, but on unladen weight only.
The economies therefore now available to the industry, we feel, should far exceed any additional expenses incurred by the proposed fees payable to the DSA, thus ensuring improvements towards road safety, together with cost-effectiveness.
