• Britain's first MercedesBenz 1735S Powerliner 2 has gone into service with specialist airfreight carrier Cranleigh Freight Services. The 273kW (365hp) turbo vee-eightengined 1735S has been specified with drive axle air suspension — a vital requirement for Cranleigh's expansion as an aero engine carrier, says CFS managing director Colin Young.
Under a contract with Martiflair, CFS will be transporting engines with an insurance value of up to £3 million and weighing up to nine tonnes, and CFS says air suspension is vital to minimise road-shocks.
Ile air-sprung tri-axle stepframe tilt semi-trailer was purpose-built for CFS by Dutch trailer maker Pacton.
