• A West German plan to introduce road toll charges for local and foreign trucks weighing over 18 tonnes GVW may well be implemented from 1 January 1990.
The charges, which are not yet fixed, would be based on an annual rate, divided by 10 to obtain a monthly rate, by 35 for a weekly charge and by 150 for a daily charge.
German trucks would pay less road tax — or none at all — to compensate for the toll charges, which are designed to ensure that foreign vehicles pay their way.
