Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HEAVY LORRY parking in Hartlepool has been a problem for some time, but co-operation with the local council could make life easier.

This became apparent last month when Northern Licensing Authority Bertram Foster adjourned an application by shopfitters Bramley Harvey and Company for a renewal of its two-vehicle 0-licence.

G. E. Thompson, a partner, said they operated one vehicle which was parked at the car park of the Wallsend Coronation Working Mens' Club. Following an objection by Tyne & Wear County Council, it has been moved to another park. It had been left to the driver to make parking arrangements as he had to leave early in the morning for long distance journeys.

A. N. Coates, senior assistant engineer to the county council, said there was a local order which prohibited the parking of vehicles over 30cwt and permitted only passenger vehicles on both car parks. But there was a car park to which the order did not apply. The county council had taken action because of many local complaints.

Adjourning the hearing to see if the applicants could come to a proper arrangement with the council, Mr Foster said that if this was done there would be no need for a further public inquiry.

It has proved possible to persuade the local authority and operators to get together and sort out suitable sites. This has proved 100 per cent successful.
