Village bus for Severn

MIDLAND Red's revision of bus services in the Greater Worcester area takes place on January 13 and will affect thousands of people as far apart as Rednal and Ripple.

The changes have been made in response to detailed surveys of passengers' needs and will ensure that the company's services around Worcester and in the Bromsgrove area are brought right up to date with those requirements.

Two weeks after the network begins, Midland Red will start to sell its £10 four-weekly tickets known as "Severntickets" giving unrestricted travel on most bus services in the new "Severnlink" network which is based on Worcester.

For just £10 the "Severnticket" will give the four weeks unlimited travel on all services in the area and half fare on the WorcesterBirmingham express.

Holders can take one other nominated person and up to two children with them between 9am and 3pm and after 6pm at night. At weekends all four can travel together at any time.

Purchasers will need to supply a passport-sized photograph of themselves together with another of the person they want to nominate to use it at weekends.

Midland Red is planning to base several of its special midibuses at its Worcester garage. Two of the buses already operate existing "Little Red Bus" routes at Redditch and Evesham.

Others will provide new community facilities at Malvern and Upton-on-Severn when the "Severnlink" services commence.

Midland Red said today: "It is not our intention to use these buses in the city as a full-scale operation but we have identified a need tor some midibus workings in Worcester. Basically the 'short cuts' meet a special requirement for outlying towns and will help to generate a friendly village bus atmosphere."
