port has appointed Geoff Whitaker traffic superintendent of the Stockport district. He was previously traffic superintendent of the smaller Bury district; and has been with Greater Manchester Transport since 1972.
Peter Hill has been appointed chief engineer of National Travel (South West) Ltd. He joins National Travel after five years with South Wales Transport as assistant engineer.
Rob Womack is the new personnel manager of the Scottish Transport Group. Previously with West Midlands PTE, he has wide experience in the personnel management field.
John Panks has been appointed chairman of Automotive Products. the vehicle brakes and transmission manufacturers. Prior to this appointment, he was deputy chairman and has been with AP since 1968. He succeeds Jack Emmott, the retiring chairman. Mr Panks will continue as chief executive. .
James Barrie, managing director of J. Barrie & Son of Glasgow, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport and former national chairman of the Road Haulage Association, retired on December 29. A fellow Scot, R. Philp, transport manager of Lawson's of Dyce, retired on the same day. He was a founder member of the Dunfermline and Aberdeen CM LDoY competitions.
Crane Fruehauf has promoted Peter Thompson to container sales manager based at their North Walsham, Norfolk, plant.
He joined the company as a container sales executive.
Neil Dick has joined Ratcliffe Tail Lifts as sales director. Previously with Crompton Electicar, he has wide experience of mechanical handling and distribution.
Davies and Robson (Southern) Ltd of Croydon has appointed Derek Royston as manager of its import and export freight advisory services. He has worked for 20 years in international freight, most recently for Union Carbide.
