A BLEAK outlook for the staffing levels of the haulage industry is foreseen by the Overdrive agency in a new report published last week.
An increase of only 2.1 per cent in staffing levels in the first quarter of 1979 is foreseen compared with an increase of 11,3 per cent in the first quarter of 1978.
But the seasonal fall in the workload of hauliers has been less marked than in previous years.
The decrease will be 6.3 per cent in the first quarter of the new year compared with 11.2 per cent last year. The decline in subcontracted work has also been less marked and the agency looks on the situation as one of slow recovery.
Overdrive compiles its figures by telephone contact with 1,438 major employers.
