Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NIGHTFREIGHT RUNS a fleet of 1,400 commercial vehicles which consists of 7.5 and 18-tormers, tractors and vans, as well as 500 trailers. Some of the fleet is on contract hire while the rest is owned by the company.

Most of the fleet is MAN, but Nightfreight does have a few products from DAF and Scania. There are 30 depots across the UK and Nightfreight works with 50 logistics partners that also have sites across the UK. While the company does traditional freight movement, it also has a Deliver2home division to cater for the growth in interne shopping and therefore home delivery as well as an irregular dimension and weight delivery service.

Nightfreight has always used Bevan as its bodybuilder for 7.5-tonne and 18-tonne vehicles. However, field engineer Bob Fraser says when Bevan came up with the idea of the Bevan21.Nightfreight decided to take a closer look. "We were very interested in what Bevan is doing because it could have a reflection on our fuel usage and, as a result, could be of benefit to us," he says.

At present Nightfreight is running just one Bevan21 and is monitoring the differences in fuel economy out on the road.

Fraser says that because of the different shape of the box, Nightfreight is also closely monitoring how loads fit into the curved fronted truck and whether or not this has any impact on volumes the 7.5-tormer can carry. -Obviously the box is the same volume, but it cannot be loaded in the same way," he says.

The company already has a policy of monitoring the fuel use of its trucks and will change trucks and drivers onto different rounds if one truck appears to be giving a lower MPG than expected.
