Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

RESEARCH BY the Department for Transport shows that 41% of all mileage in the van sector is linked to construction work, with personal use only accounting for 13%.

The DfT's freight transport statistics division says the survey was carried out among 2,500 private van owners over a year. Previous surveys have lumped all van buyers together, including private owners and those belonging to companies with large fleets. Other key findings to emerge from the survey include the following.

• Travelling to and from work accounts for more than a third of all trips.

• Peak usage is between Sarn-Stam and 4pm-5pm when more than a quarter of vans are on the road.

• Most trips take place during weekdays and only 3% are on Sundays.

• Vans are empty for more than a quarter of the mileage they cover.

• Business trips are typically around 12 miles long and personal trips are around eight miles long.

A further survey of companyowned vans is due lobe published by the Department for Transport in June.
