by Toby Clark • Scania will be at this week's Amsterdam Show with a new range of engines and a revised layout for the cabs of its tractive units.
Unit injectors feature in a 420hp version of Scania's 12litre engine. A shorter-stroke 11litre variant joins the range at 340hp and 380hp, but existing 12-litre models remain in production at 360hp and 420hp.
The new electronically controlled engines will be available with Scania's Opticruise autoinatic gearchange later this year this can be combined with a retarder for downhill speed control. The firm is also introducing electronically controlled brakes (EBS) on a wider range of its 4-Series models, including the twin-steer and rear-steer versions.
The full-height Rcab has been revised, with the introduction of a "single-driver" option. This comes with a single, foldaway bunk, an 'armchair" on the passenger side, an optional tabletop, a tilting steering wheel and a folding gear lever for better cross-cab access.
The two-man Topline version retains its front-mounted top bunk but gets an improved access ladder and a folding lower bunk. The standard twinbunk R-cab is still available, with improved cross-cab access and storage.
Flat-roof versions of the P and R-cabs have been developed for car transporter applications, and all forward-control cabs are now offered with optional se_atbelt tensioners and a driver's-side airbag.
A CM will have a full report on the Amsterdam Show in next week's issue; the show continues at the RAI centre until 14 February.
