• A Horncostle lorry driver who escaped a drink-driving ban after telling magistrates he got behind the wheel of his car because he was terrified of being beaten up by a gang of thugs has been banned after an appeal.
Lincolnshire magistrates accepted his plea and on 1 July last year gave him a 12month conditional discharge with three points on his licence. But two High Court judges ruled that the magistrates had erred in law and directed them to ban Goddard for at least a year.
