Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE MAY 1 cut-off date for down-plating of existing vehicles was strongly emphasised at last Friday's CM/ Leyland 38-tonne workshop (see p18).

Operators who do not want to take advantage of the amendments to Construction and Use Regulations by running at over 32.5 tonnes were urged to have their vehicles replated as soon as possible.

If this is not done before May 1, the vehicle taxation will be based on the design weight to the chassis and not on its operating weight.

This means, for example, that a tractive unit with a design weight of 38 tonnes will be taxed at the 38-tonne rate even if it is operating at 32.5 or even 30 tonnes gcw.

It was stressed that this May 1 date refers to the actual testing and not just to the application for replating.
