THE assembly of Leyland lorry chassis

will start in Turkey about the middle of this year, it was announced by the Leyland Motor Corporation last week. A contract has been signed with the Selahattin Bayazid Co., Istanbul, and a £5013,000 factory is nearing completion at Mersin, an important cotton and citrus exporting centre in the fast developing south. The plant will -eventually be capable of producing more than 1,500 chasm a year.

Special Chassis Vehicle production at the new factory will consist initially of a medium-heavyduty chassis, specially developed by Leyland engineers to suit the needs of the area. Technicians from the Corporation will be going to Turkey to establish modern production methods, and by the end of 1965 it is expected that the vehicles will have a local material content of 20-30 per cent. THE city of Munich is to install a I traffic-control system claimed to be the most advanced, in the world. Based on computer control, this system has been developed by Elliott Traffic Automation Ltd., London.

Munich will be the first city in Europe to use electronic computers to synchronize traffic-signal installations to achieve optimum use of road capacity. The system is dependent on the minute-to-minute traffic situation and will be extended to control all major traffic-carrying roads. The computer will monitor automatically the situation. at various points, calculate the signal settings required to obtain optimum traffic flow and make appropriate adjustments to traffic lights. Vehicle traffic flows will be measured by lane, threshold and capacity detectors.
