"IN your own interests the operation

of these services should cease immediately," the East Midland Licensing Authority, Mr. A. G. Curtis; told Mr. C. W. Blankley, a Colesworth bus operator, when he applied, last week. for permission to vary a service at present operated under licence from North Luffenham to Nottingham, Leicester and Peterborough to pick up airmen at Cottesmore R.A.F. camp.

" You were warned by my predecessor in July, 1952, about these services. Notwithstanding that warning they have continued. At Cambridge, in December, 1953, you were fined flO on each

of live counts. We have again heard today. that the services have. continued. The Licensing Authority is now left with no alternative but to consider what action should be taken," said Mr. Curtis.

Mr. Blankley said he had been operating on a private-hire basis since 1946, and, realizing that the business was becoming a service, he applied for a licence.

When Mr. Blankley produced figures showing that last year he carried 1,72h passengers from Cottesmore to Nottingham, 2,031 to Leicester, and passengers to Birmingham, Sheffield, Doncaster. Manchester and Leeds. Mr. L. W. A White, for the objectors, said: "I think this is an abuse of the court."
