Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A New Model with Semi-forward Control.

THE accompanying two illustrations are of a new 2i-ton Shefflex chassis, which, as will be seen, is provided with semi-forward control. The leading features of this vehicle are an ample loading space and a turning circle of 40-ft diameter, so that it is exceptionally well adapted for employment in confined spaces or narrow streets. Other good points are simplicity of the controls, accessibility to the various units and attention to the comfort of the driver, there being no restriction or cramping of the seating in the cab. The chassis is, therefore, particularly suitable for use with furniture-van bodies and in connection with other trades

where more than two men are required to be carried on the vehicle.

Reverting to the matter of accessibility, the engine can be taken out of the frame by the removal of the radiator and the usual conneetion.s only ; the cylinders can be lifted without removing the engine from the frame or interfering with the cab, all that is required being the loosening of four clips on the cowl over the rear cylinders, which, it is claimed, can be done in just under a minute. The tappets, magneto and carburetter can be reached for adjust

ment by the lifting of the bonnet, whilst valve regrinding is just as easy as on the standard models. Another special feature is that any unit, such as the engine, clutch, gearbox and differential can be taken out separately without disturbing any other part.

The chassis is also being made as a 2-tonner, and either can be supplied with a 11-ft. or 12-ft. wheelbase, the Platform length varying from 10 ft. 6 ins. on the 11-ft. wheelbase model to 12 ft. on the longer type—and this without any overhang of the body.

These chassis are also being made as low-loaders for refuse collection, in which case the platform is 2 ft. 2 ins. from the ground, whilst the ground clearance is 7 ins. Equipped for this purpose, the carrying capacity is 7 cubic

yards, and the vehicles can be supplied fitted with either hydraulic or handtipping gear according to the purchaser's preference.

Both types of chassis are well designed and strongly constructed, but careful distribution of the material has enabled the weight to be kept low.
