THE NEW .f6m Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia dealership in Wellingborough has helped to seal the deal to put the first trucks from the Swedish manufacturer onto the Whitworth Bros fleet.

The dealership supplied the flour millers, based at Victoria Mills in Wellingborough, with two new Volvo FH-460 Globetrotter 6x2 tractor units.

The trucks will be maintained on Volvo's Gold Contract. For Whitworth Bros' distribution manager Colin Spurrier, the Uptime Assurance included within the contract was key. "As we deliver to customers who are operating product lines, we can't afford unscheduled loss of vehicle availability," he said. "The availability of Uptime Assurance definitely played an important part in the decision to choose Volvo."

The trucks will be used with curtain-sided trailers to move palletised finished products to its customers.

He added: "Fuel economy and, where possible, fixing whole-life costs such as maintenance, are key factors when making vehicle purchasing decisions."

He also revealed Whitworth Bros is looking at Volvo's new FM in 6x2 tractor unit configuration at Euro-6 as a possible contender for the company's bulk tanker fleet.

• CM will be publishing an interview with Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia's regional MD David Sullivan in January about the dealership's move from the first Volvo dealer site in the UK based in Kettering, which opened in 1967, to Wellingborough.
