0 f you want to prevent your neighbours or visitors to the local takeaway parking outside your house, why not install your own parking meter? For just £15 you can buy one from West Sussex County Council, which has 500 redundant meters after removing them from the seaside town of Worthing.
The council says it has been surprised at the demand from motorists who for 30 years have regarded them as the bane of their lives. Residents of Worthing should not get too excited however, the council has not dispensed with this easy source of income. Instead, it has installed super new solar-powered meters.
And there's no chance of escaping payment on a dull day either: they are fitted with emergency backup batteries.
