Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Iam the wife of an owner-driver. I've just listened to the budget and I suppose we are meant to sit here and feel grateful that they didn't put any more on HGV road tax.

Well I'm not. My biggest frustration with the haulage business is the price of the British road tax and the fact that some trucks on our roads have not had to pay anything at all because they are from Europe.

Mv husband works mostly in Germany and Austria. Like everyone else, as soon as he crosses the water to Europe his hand is straight in his pocket paying more money out for tax on roads. He is then out there all week.

In practice. the only time our British tax gets used is between Dover docks and Deal, where we live. Sometimes, if we're lucky, we'll get a trip up North and back home for the weekend.

We know many companies are doing the same as us. So what can be done? Isn't the transport union there to speak to the Government for us? How can the Government justify the price of our road tax? Small businesses like ours are struggling. As a housewife, I compare us small hauliers to our little corner shops. Take a look, lads, how many of them are left?

Jan, Deal.
