He advises hauliers to fix return loads before accepting export traffic: "You can't just go and hope you're going to pick up something." BIFA has received the backing of Rob McHugh, who runs Owner Operators UK. "If you are looking for a forwarder, the first thing to do is work out what kind of traffic you want to carry; then get hold of the BIFA handbook," he says.
The Transport Users Group now has more than 60 companies on its blacklist of bad payers, according to director Rob Sutton. The list includes clearing houses and two haulage firms with more than 100 trucks in their fleets, he says.
TUG has been building up the list over recent months (CM 21-27 Nov).
