• Danskin Distribution, of Cupar, Fife, has crashed into receivership blaming a batch of Leyland Dafs for its failure.
The company took 30 tractors in the late 1980s but sent them all back after a long series of breakdowns, Ian Murdoch, joint receiver at KPMG Peat Marwick's Glasgow office, said this week. "The directors blame the company's failure on the vehicles' unreliability and I think it must have been a contributory factor."
The directors had taken "a largely untried model and after two years, sent the whole lot back. The main problem was with the engine, which I understand has since been withdrawn," says Murdoch.
The receiver now has to decide whether to continue a legal action against the manufacturer, brought by Danskin.
Meanwhile, the receiver is trying to sell the company as a going concern.
