• The Court of Appeal has ruled that Sheffield-based South Yorkshire Transport can retain ownership of four rival firms it acquired two years ago.
The Monopolies and Mergers Commission had recommended that Sheffield and District Transport, Michael Groves Coaches, Sheafline and Hallam Bus should be sold. It believes SYT has exceeded legislative limits on market share which says firms must not take over a quarter of the market "in a substantial part of the UK". It is deciding whether to petition the Law Lords, after being refused leave to appeal to the House of Lords.
