ADVERTISEMENTS in nine local newspapers quoting the approximate percentage of cost increases incurred by hauliers over the past 12 months were placed by the Road Haulage Association, North Western (Eastern) area last week. This was to alert the hauliers' customers in the area of the size of rate increases which might be sought very soon. To spell out the details, the advertisement was followed up with a letter addressed to between 200 and 300 of the principal local users of road freight transport.
It showed the breakdown of standing and running cost increases during the year and forecast an average overall rate increase of 15.36 per cent.
