AN INCREASE of 1 per cent in bus mileage next year is being sought by London Transport. Amounting to a total of 1.8m miles, the increase is part of a planned mileage target announced this month by Mr Kenneth Robinson, LT's chairman.
Mr Robinson said: "The boost to recruitment during most of 1975 should now provide the manpower resource for a slightly higher level of service with the finance likely to be available, although this must depend on the size of the LT's Government grant, which will not be known until December."
Mr Robinson revealed that the number of buses out of service because of maintenance problems was already falling, but he pointed out that the 1 per cent increase in miles operated would mean that only 85 per cent of the full bus schedule would operate.
